  • A. Scalability - Tikona Infinet MPLS network is designed specifically for highly scalable solutions. The peer model requires a customer site to peer with only one provider edge (PE) router as opposed to all other CPE or customer edge (CE) routers that are members of the VPN. This connectionless architecture allows the creation of VPNs in Layer 3, eliminating the need for tunnels or VCs and thus scaling better than customer-based VPNs since they are provider-network-based, reducing the configuration and management requirements for the customer.
  • B. Security - In the Tikona Infinet MPLS network, MPLS VPNs offer the same level of security as connection-oriented VPNs (such as Frame Relay and ATM). Packets from one VPN do not cross into another VPN involuntarily. Security is provided at the edge of the network, ensuring that packets received from a customer are placed on the correct VPN. At the backbone, VPN traffic is kept separate. Spoofing (an attempt to gain access to a PE router) is nearly impossible, because the packets received from customers are IP packets that must be received on a particular interface or sub-interface to be uniquely identified with a VPN label.
  • C. End-to-End Priority Services (QoS) - MPLS can improve network performance and quality of service (QoS) for select traffic. Tikona Infinet offers multiple classes of service, each associated with different types of traffic. For instance, an enterprise's mission-critical applications (such as Oracle) might be in a Gold class of service, less-important applications might be in a Silver service, recreational applications (such as games, instant messaging, and P2P) might be in a Best Effort service, and VoIP traffic might be in its own class of service that would reduce jitter. As shown below, customers may choose to prioritize the traffic according to their business needs and criticality.

  • QoS mechanisms present Tikona Infinet customers with a true end-to-end QoS solution. Using Classes of Service (CoS/QoS) and priority queuing, so that the customer's network knows which traffic is most important and ensures that it takes priority over other traffic. For example, if Customer is running voice application and data & requires voice traffic to be prioritized than data traffic. Then priority (bit set) is set for Voice traffic in QoS than data traffic. MPLS supports the delivery of services with Quality of Service (QoS) guaranteed. Packets can be marked for high quality, enabling providers to maintain a specified low end-to-end latency for voice and video. Thus, customers get good quality service.
  • D. Traffic Engineering - Routing with Resource Reservation (RRR) using extensions to the RSVP protocol lets applications maximize the utilization of network resources and operate IP networks as efficiently as possible. RRR allows Tikona Infinet to apply and enforce explicit routing, overriding the traditional IP forwarding techniques and provides fast restoration and protection mechanisms for their customers. Underutilized links can be forced to carry traffic, thereby resulting in an optimum routing scenario.
  • E. Choice of Network Architectures - Based on the customer's requirement the customer's network can be designed in several ways such as Fully Meshed, Partially Meshed, Hub & Spoke etc. Different protocols are only distinguished at ingress and egress routers. We can run different protocols in last mile with customer.
